Quality Remodeling Services in Marana
Marana has something most of the region does not, which is land. Lots here run larger than what you find in the older neighborhoods closer to the mountains, and that single fact changes the entire conversation about an addition.
Closer in, a homeowner who needs more space is usually looking at building up, because the parcel is at its setbacks and there is nowhere else to go. Going up means stairs, a structural upgrade to carry the new floor, and a second story that has to look like it belongs on a house designed without one. In Marana we can far more often build out instead, which is a simpler build, a shorter schedule, and a result that reads as part of the original house rather than something stacked on top of it.
Building out also keeps the addition on one level, which matters more than people expect. A ground-floor primary suite, a casita for a parent, or a guest wing with its own entrance all work better without a staircase in the middle of them. For households planning to stay in the house a long time, that is the difference between a space that works now and one that works in twenty years.
The projects we build here follow the household. Two bedrooms and a bath when the family grew or the grandchildren started staying for weeks. A primary suite added off the back when the original one stopped being enough. A casita or accessory building for multigenerational living. Sometimes a great room extension because the original plan put the kitchen and the living space in separate rooms.
Frei designs and builds under one roof, which on an addition is the whole point. Foundation, framing, roof tie-in, stucco match, and interior finish all have to agree, and they agree far more easily when one team owns them. We have been at this in Southern Arizona since 1962, three generations of the same family, AZ ROC 253812.
Matching matters as much here as anywhere. Marana subdivisions were built to consistent specifications, so a mismatched roof pitch or the wrong stucco texture stands out on a street where every house shares a vocabulary. We match to the original so the addition does not announce itself.
You get CompanyCam photos daily, which on an addition is when the interesting work happens and then gets covered up. The craftsmanship warranty runs five years with a six-month check-in, and we hold the schedule 98 percent of the time.
One thing we will not do is put in a basement. They are not standard construction in Southern Arizona. Additions here go outward, or where the lot demands it, upward.
Walk us through the house and the lot. On a Marana parcel the answer is often better than homeowners expect. If the addition is part of a bigger plan, we can fold it into a whole home remodel or pair it with a kitchen remodel on the same schedule.

Our History in Marana
The Santa Cruz floodplain made Marana farmland long before it made it a town, and cotton and grain fields shaped the parcel pattern that still governs how houses sit here. When residential development arrived in earnest in the late 1990s, it laid subdivisions across land that had been farmed in large rectangles, and the lots inherited that generosity.
Compare that to the older communities up against the Santa Catalinas, where parcels were carved into hillside and wash and every square foot was negotiated with the terrain. A Marana homeowner asking about an addition is usually asking a question with a straightforward answer. The land is there, it is flat, and the setbacks are not immediately in the way.
Grade is the quiet advantage. Flat ground means less excavation, simpler foundation work, and drainage that does not have to be re-engineered around the new footprint. Neighborhoods out toward Coyote Trail Elementary and Rattle Snake Ridge Elementary sit on ground like this, and it is a large part of why building out costs less here than the same square footage would elsewhere in the region.
The other inheritance from the farming years is water. The washes that drain this part of the valley run wide and shallow, and where a parcel sits relative to one decides how a new footprint has to be graded. That is a survey question, not a guess, and it is the first thing we settle before drawing an addition on a Marana lot.
Frequently Asked Questions - Marana Remodeling
Is it better to build out or up on a Marana lot?
Out, in most cases. Marana lots are generally larger and flatter than parcels closer to the mountains, so a single-story addition is usually possible. That means no staircase, simpler structure, and a shorter schedule. We survey the lot and setbacks before recommending either.
Can you build a casita or guest house?
Yes. Casitas, accessory buildings, and guest wings with their own entrance are common work for us, and Marana lot sizes make them more feasible here than in a lot of the region.
Will the addition match my existing house?
That is the standard. We match roof pitch, stucco texture and color, window proportion, and trim detail. In a planned community where the houses share a design vocabulary, a mismatch is obvious, so we treat the match as part of the build rather than an afterthought.
Do you add basements?
No. Basements are not standard construction in Southern Arizona and we do not add them to existing homes.
Can we stay in the house during an addition?
Usually yes, and building outward helps. Most of the work happens outside the existing walls until the tie-in, so the disruptive stretch is shorter than an interior remodel of the same size.
